WELCOME TO VIENNA 2006
June 29 and 30
The two competitions before the WMOC-WEEK in Wiener Neustadt will give you the opportunity to combine sightseeing in Vienna with a competition, and to get in contact with Austrian terrain and organisation.
You will meet other participants and relax after the competition in the typical Viennese atmosphere with a beer in a Prater-restaurant or drink a glass of wine in the wine-yards of Mauer.
The competitions will not be a direct preparation for the WMOC since terrains, maps, course-setters and organizers are different. But this Prolog will be a good opportunity to have interesting and different orienteering within a short distance.
To avoid stress after a long journey you will have free start on the first day the whole afternoon. Very close to the airport and easily to get there you will find a very challenging area mid in town.
The second day will give you a view on Vienna and some climb too.
You are coming by car: It is easy to get to the events by car and parking is free.
Take care that there is only short-time parking in many areas in Vienna. Since there is only a blue line on the street when you get in the blue zones it may be difficult to know. If you have booked a hotel in Vienna look for the area: www.wien.gv.at/verkehr/parken/
In these areas parking costs Euro 0,40 for ½ hour. Tickets to fill in you may buy int your hotel, in banks, but easily in all “Tabak-Trafik”-tobacco-shops.
You are coming by public-transport (airplane, train, bus):
There is a good network in Vienna and it is easy to get to the events.
Tickets you should buy at machines at bigger stations (railway-station, tube-stations or easily in all “Tabak-Trafik”-tobacco-shops).
A ticket in one direction costs Euro 1,50, in the tramway Euro 2,-
We recommend to buy a 24-hours ticket for Euro 5,- or a 72-hours ticket for Euro 12,-. If you plan to go into exhibitions a 72-hours “Wien Karte”-Vienna Card for 16,90 Euro will give you some discounts and a child under 15 years going with you is free. www.info.wien.at, www.wienerlinien.at
